Acclaimed cartoonist, filmmaker, and activist Marjane Satrapi, best known for her landmark graphic novel series Persepolis, has passed away at the age of 56.
Reports indicate the author died of grief, following the passing of her husband, Mattias Ripa, just over a year ago. A titan in the medium, Satrapi is remembered for her powerful, autobiographical depiction of the Iranian Revolution and her later work as a director, including the Oscar-nominated 2007 Persepolis film adaptation.
