Olivia Wilde returns to the director’s chair with The Invite, a tense, single-location relationship dramedy that stands as her most controlled and mature work yet. A remake of the 2020 Spanish film Sentimental, the movie follows a struggling couple who host their seemingly perfect neighbors for an evening that quickly spirals into a pressurized game of emotional exposure.
While the film eventually runs out of steam as it approaches its finale, it remains a compelling, well-acted character study. The Invite hits select theaters on June 26, followed by a wide release on July 10.
