Former writer Daniel McMahon has shed new light on Whore of the Orient, the scrapped spiritual successor to L.A. Noire. Originally in development at Kennedy Miller-Mitchell, the project aimed to evolve the detective genre with a dense, 1930s Shanghai setting.
Unlike its predecessor, the game would have focused on crime prevention rather than solving cold cases, featuring a dynamic language learning system and branching interrogation paths that allowed players to choose their own approach—from gentle questioning to aggressive bullying. The game was ultimately canceled in its early stages due to funding and publisher issues.
