Aaron Pierre, set to star as John Stewart in HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series, revealed that a severe bicep injury nearly cost him the part just before his final callback. The actor sustained a tear so severe his tendon separated from the bone, requiring surgery and a brace during the crucial audition phase.
Despite the injury, Pierre pushed through the casting process, driven by his passion for the character. The show is currently scheduled to stream on HBO starting August 16, 2026.
