Mel Gibson is still pushing to direct Lethal Weapon 5, revealing that the film would focus on a more character-driven story involving an aging Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh. However, the project remains stuck in “industrial film hell,” according to the star.
Gibson indicated that the script, penned by Richard Wenk, is complete and steers away from massive explosions to focus on the protagonists’ later lives. He is currently looking to industry power players like Paramount’s David Ellison to help get the long-gestating sequel moving.
