In an early development phase of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red’s quest for realistic NPC behavior led to some hilariously dark results. Because villagers were programmed to drop what they were holding and flee when startled by the player, female NPCs would inadvertently toss their infants to the ground whenever Geralt drew his weapons.

Quest designer Philipp Weber revealed that while this issue was eventually patched, the bug was a direct result of the team’s aggressive pursuit of immersive, day-to-night cycles for the game’s countryside inhabitants.
