Following a major service disruption that left players unable to sign in or launch games, Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet has addressed the incident, citing a failure in a shared internal Microsoft licensing service. The outage, which persisted from late Sunday through Monday, prevented users from accessing their full libraries and impacted various third-party partners.

Van Vliet acknowledged the situation as “unacceptable” and confirmed a post-incident review is underway. Moving forward, the company plans to harden critical dependencies and improve detection systems to prevent similar single points of failure from recurring.
