Angel Studios’ Young Washington aims to be a grand historical epic, but its reach ultimately exceeds its grasp. While the film offers an earnest look at the future president’s early days as a British officer, it is hampered by a formulaic script and noticeable, low-budget visual effects that hold it back to the level of a flat TV movie.

Despite these shortcomings, the film manages to be more engaging than recent presidential biopics, offering solid battle sequences and a decent lead performance from William Franklyn-Miller. Fans of historical dramas may still find it watchable, but those hoping for a truly nuanced, big-budget chronicle of a Founding Father will likely be left wanting.
